CLASS RESULTS & CRITIQUES

A breed I love so it was an honour and great pleasure to be invited to judge this club’s Championship show. The facilities were spot on and the ring perfect in every respect. The Officers and Committee had worked hard to ensure that no detail had been overlooked and I was made to feel very welcome. A very good entry greeted me with few absentees. My overall impression was of a healthy functional breed but no one can deny that the breed has a problem with eyes. Narrow rounded skulls were also evident as were narrow fronts and tied elbows. A few were too heavy carrying fat rather than substance. Coats and general condition were good – some are trimmed and some are shown more natural, it doesn’t affect me. The standard calls for little stop and broad skull so could someone explain to me the advantage of trimming the skull hair and then brushing it up? It doesn’t accentuate breadth but does accentuate the stop! Temperaments were excellent as was to be expected. The atmosphere throughout the day was a credit to all present and my gratitude goes to everyone involved for such a pleasant day.

Dogs

Minor Puppy Dog (3,0)

1st - Mrs D McEvoy - Ticklecove's Lets Pretend: Promising baby, obviously very raw as yet but displays balance, could come up on the leg a little, head developing, reasonable eye, moderate stop, moved well.

2nd - Mr G J & Mrs P Leech - Mileoak Mr Blue Sky: Pleased for type, longer caste than 1, head developing very well, soundly built frame with good bone, preferred front action of 1.

3rd - Mrs S E Land - Just For You Du Domaine Deflambeau (Imp Fra, taf)

Puppy Dog (6,0)

1st - Mr D & Mrs S Queen - Sandbears Catch Me If You Can: Well on and very honest to go over, proportioned head with strength to muzzle, moderate stop and flat skull, clean eyes of good colour and not too large, reach to neck, pleasing front assembly into strong straight limbs, body well ribbed and back, topline and hindquarters to suit, tended to stand awkward behind at times, moves soundly, BPIS.

2nd - Mrs W V Austin - Baranova Big Bopper of Elbear: Felt this lad had a superb outline, he is well constructed, just preferred eye of 1 and broader front, shown in good coat and condition.

3rd - Mr & Mrs C Sayle - Baranova Top Gallant

Res - Mr & Mrs R B Mayhew - Sandbears More Than Class

VHC - Mrs A P Springthorpe - Merrybear Giovanwhiz

Veteran Dog (2,0)

1st - Mrs E M Dickson & Mr T McCarthy - Ch Priorscove Ebony Eclipse ShCM: 7yo lad of considerable breed type and quality, masculine and powerful with impressive bearing, decent head and properties, eye could be a little darker, moved with purpose, shown in hard condition, BVIS.

2nd - Mrs W V Austin - Sandbears True Grit of Elbear JW ShCM: also 7yo, worthy specimen, strong frame and shown in good nick, just preferred reach to neck and forehand of 1.

Special Veteran Dog (2,0)

1st - Mr R & Mrs S E Land - Tawiscara Reuben: At almost 11yo what a credit to the breed and his owner, excels for type, chest well developed, pleasing topline and hindquarters, carries strong bone, moved very well for his age.

2nd - Mr & Mrs Wheeler - Staneberne Lord Of The Lakes: 9 1/2yo, masculine with reasonable head, his front is well developed, he gave a little in topline and I thought him a touch cloddy.

Junior Dog (4,2)

1st - Mr G Cockerill & Miss K Forster - Merrybear Frere Jacques: Much to commend this lad, he is masculine and soundly constructed and didplays harmonious lines, would like him up on the leg a tad, moved very well with impressive bearing, quality coat texture and shown to full advantage, well deserved the RCC.

2nd - Mrs L Danson - Newruff Centurions Army: Upstanding chap and nicely balanced, head well laid out, very nice eye, body with ribs well sprung and decent topline, moved steady, just preferred lines of 1.

Graduate Dog (10,3)

1st - Mr G J & Mrs T A & Misses E G & F L Coldwell - Zentaur I Will Wait JW BJCH'15: 14 mo and development about right, cleanest of lines provided by well constructed frame, still needs to rib up and could carry a shade more substance, time is on his side, quality coat well presented.

2nd - Mrs J Sheridan - Merrybear Edwardo: Upstanding lad, head well laid out, liked his eye, could have a more moderate stop, pleasing neck and front assembly, preferred topline of 1, moved well and in good condition.

3rd - Mrs L Danson - Newruff Centurions Army

Res - Mrs P M Byers & Mr I M Smith - Solwaybay Fearless Flame

VHC - Mr & Mrs K Hosie - Newfoundlove New Edition At Shadowrise

1st - Mr & Mrs K Hosie - Newfoundlove My Guy At Shadowrise ShCM: masculine 3yo with impressive lines, reasonable head with correct eye, good reach to neck giving noble bearing, shoulders nicely placed, elbows held firm and supported by strong, straight limbs and good feet, well ribbed and back with topline to suit, gentle slope to croup and useful hindquarters, moved as one would wish and shown in good form.

2nd - Ms S Baxter & Mr D Morris - Thickish Newfoundland Zorbas Dance: Just needs a little more length to leg but his frame is totally honest in construction earning him this place, his body is well ribbed and back with strong loin and muscular hindquarters, quality coat and texture.

3rd - Mrs S Blake - Sandbears Cash And Carry

Res - Mr & Mrs C Sayle - Cewrirdwr Llyn Llywelyn

VHC - Mrs L Thomas - Sandbears Harvey

Limit Dog (11,0)

1st - Mrs T Stanton - Very Fairweather's Yes I'm (Imp): Considered this lad most attractive, masculine without exaggeration and totally functional, his head is lovely in profile, strength to muzzle, dark clean eye, moderate stop, preferred the bitches skull when it came to BOB, he has a noble bearing and beautiful deportment on the move, coat with texture and well presented albeit with an American influence, DCC.

2nd - Mrs S Blake - Sandbears Better Than Ever JW: Upstanding lad and pretty close up, portrays lovely breed type and outline, shown in excellent condition, moved soundly but did not match the deportment of 1.

3rd - Mr I & Mrs R Hutchinson - Wuzibears Miami

Res - Mrs A P Springthorpe - New Angels My Guy At Millthorpe JW ShCM

VHC - Mr J & Mrs T Mycock - Spirebear Dark Secret

Open Dog (3,1)

1st - Mr W & Mrs A Dobbin - Ch/Ir Ch Brooklynbear Nijinsky: Strong well developed frame and pleasing outline, expressive head with small well placed eye, good reach to neck and correct dignified bearing, body with shape and pleasing topline, moved well, in good muscular condition and well presented.

2nd - Ms S Baxter & Mr D Morris - Albanywater Sea Dancer At Davistell: Correct silhouette and very typical, soundly built and moving, just preferred head of 1, nicely handled.

Special Open Black Dog (2,0)

1st - Mr B & Mrs A Carr - Wuzibears Promenade To Sauvtage JW ShCM: This lad is well balanced but a tad overdone for preference, he was shown in good muscular condition and sported the correct textured coat, head well laid out, square muzzle, flat skull and small well placed ears, ribcage well sprung, topline could improve, moved steady.

2nd - Mr J & Mrs T Mycock - Spirebear Dark Secret: Typy lad with reasonable head, frame with good bone, straight limbs and good feet, well ribbed body and decent hindquarters, moved steady

Special Open White & Black Landseer Dog (1,0)

1st - Mr K, Mrs S & Miss A Walden - Joalta Storm Warning: Upstanding lad of correct breed type and very together, moved to advantage and demonstrated impressive bearing, however I felt his roll was a little excessive and he gave a tad in his topline, excellent textured coat and markings, well handled.

2nd - Mr S M & Mrs K L Hietschold - Chrishelkate Be Dazzled: Liked her outline, decent head, lovely eye, moderate stop, well placed small ears, preferred shoulder placement of 1, moved steady.

Special Veteran Bitch (2,1)

1st - Mrs W V Austin - Newphrey Hot Jazz Of Elbear: 9 1/4yo lady of quality, her strong bone and substance is carried with considerable style, liked her head, lovely eye, chest well developed with ribs well sprung and level back, moved soundly but tail carriage just spoiled flowing lines when she was in action.

Junior Bitch (7,1)

1st - Mr G J & Mrs T A & Misses E G & F L Coldwell - Zentaur How Fickle My Heart: Well this girl is me to a tee, I really loved her, her outline and construction are superb, movement is super sound and her carriage majestic, I considered her very seriously for higher awards but her development is spot on for her age which means she can still benefit from a little more spring of rib and substance, I am sure she has a fun filled time ahead.

2nd - Mr R Furnell & Mr L Lydon - Furndonbay Run The World: Feminine with correct attributes, her head is proportionate and balanced, eye just a tad large, ears small and well appointed, clean forehand, good bone and feet, level topline with gentle slope to croup and useful hindquarters, can tend to crouch but is fine on the move and displays good deportment.

Post Graduate Bitch (6,1)

1st - Mrs A P Springthorpe - Merrybear Euphoria At Millthorpe JW: Quality lady, strong yet retaining gender, very nicely balanced and carrying a well proportioned head with properties to compliment, developed chest, elbows held firm and sound limbs, lovely movement and carriage, well muscled and sporting a quality coat.

2nd - Miss A Moir - Newgraden Cheeka Bell: To my mind and eye, very, very similar to 1 so same observations apply although I just favoured head and topline of 1.

3rd - Mr W J & Mrs C E Lloyd - Cewrirdwr Llyn Goddionduon

Res - Mrs M Hartley - Vanilla Sky For Shadow's Eternity

VHC - Mrs J Harper - Sandbears Raspberry Ripple

Limit Bitch (3,0)

1st - Mrs J Cameron - Mileoak Mon Amour: Feminine, she portrayed breed type but I considered her low on leg, she moved sound enough and was well presented.

2nd - Mr R & Mrs S E Land - Deep Love I Believe In Magic (Imp Fra): A little overdone and masculine for me, having said that her construction was true enough and she moved soundly.

3rd - Ms J Angus - Blacktide Spirit Of Freedom

Open Bitch (4,0)

1st - Mrs S Blake - Ch Sandbears Got Attitude: To me this lady epitomised the breed, she has strength while retaining feminininity and the most beautiful outline, totally balanced without exaggeration, she moved with consummate ease and flowing lines a real joy to behold, BCC & BIS.

2nd - Mrs J A Woodhall - Ch Bearhugs Anya: Very similar stamp, sound, eyecatching and of lovely type, just preferred flatter skull of 1, moved purposefully and was shown in lovely condition.

3rd - Mr A G & Mrs K J Farrar - Ch Darkpeak Fallen Angel

Res - Mr R J & Mrs C D Hobbs - Alphabear Halo

Special Open Black Bitch (6,1)

1st - Mr R A & Mrs J Cunliffe - Chrishelkate Cracklin Rose At Lillybears: Feminine and beautifully mature, pleasing head well carried on reachy neck which fits into correctly constructed front assembly, she carries good bone and is well muscled, balanced outline and sound on the move.

Special Open Brown Bitch (5,0)

1st - Mr G J & Mrs T A & Misses E G & F L Coldwell - Ch Zentaur Tee Tea Effen JW ShCM: 5yo mature brown of quality, head well laid out with good expression which can be difficult to get in this colour, neck with reach into clean forehand and strong limbs, shape to ribcage with topline and hindquarters to suit, sound movement which was stylish, shown in good nick.

2nd - Ms D Ball - Newgraden Llori Nanya: VHC from MP, just 8 mo so giving quite a lot away here, she is developing with promise, her head is coming, front is a little narrow still, body is developing well and she is a confident mover.

3rd - Mrs P Lucas - Coltrana Egyptian Gold

Res - Mrs J Harper - Sandbears Raspberry Ripple

VHC - Mr W & Mrs K Main - Newgraden Bootylicious

Special Open White & Black Landseer Bitch (1,0)

1st - Mr M & Mrs J Groves - Bridgestone Grip It N Rip It JW: Brought forward in stunning condition this lady has a proportioned head, small eye and lovely expression, I didn’t consider her the ultimate in femininity but her strong well constructed frame cannot be ignored, moved soundly with confident carriage, carries good muscle and tone, quality coat and markings with minimal ticking, RCC.

Other Competitions
